Win The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby by Erin MacPherson

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby: Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Your PregnancyBook Title: The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby
Subtitle: Everything you need to know to survive (and love) your pregnancy
Author: Erin MacPherson
Genre: Religion, Christian Life, Family
ISBN: 978-0-8249-4858-0
Publisher: Guideposts
Suggested Retail Price: $14.99

From the book:

You're pregnant. You thought you'd be glowing. Instead, you're glistening with sweat, reeling from nausea and, worst of all, you can't get your favorite jeans buttoned. You're irritable, nervous, bloated, and, to be perfectly honest, a bit annoyed that it takes nine whole months to grow a baby. Couldn't God have sped up the process a bit - say, in only two or three weeks?
*************
This is a truly funny look at everything related to becoming pregnant and having a baby. The book walks you through the whole process from getting into being pregnant through all the medical stuff that comes along with it.  It takes a look at morning sickness, your OBGYN's office, eating, exercising, all the semesters all the way through what to expect from your brand new baby. There's even a helpful section just for the brand new Christian Daddy to be.

I love the light hearted way that the author has written this book.  She weaves Him into every aspect in a way that is comforting and reassuring.  This can be a really stressful time full of uncertainties and I think that this book really does a great job in taking away some of the worry of being a first time mommy or daddy.  There is an index in the back of the book that organizes all of the topics for easy reference. This is definitely a book to hold onto for each pregnancy.

Win a copy of Unplanned on DVD

Abby Johnson was raised in a Christian home with pro-life beliefs. She went to church twice a week and was part of a close, loving home. She went off to college at Texas A&M after high school and enjoyed freedom much like any other college freshman would enjoy. She met someone and got pregnant. Feeling lost, she simply accepted his recommendation that she get an abortion.

She remembers back over the feeling of emptiness and uncertainty that she had during and after the abortion. She remembers her boyfriend's casual acceptance of it and the fact that they never discussed it again. Back at college, she again got pregnant and because her relationship with the baby's father was ending, she chose another abortion. A little while later, at college she came across a Planned Parenthood volunteer table where they were seeking volunteers to help at a local office. She was drawn to the hot pink colors and the dream of helping women who needed help.

This is her story. It's her story of volunteering at Planned Parenthood and what she saw there. It's the story of her success as she rose through the corporation to become a clinic director. It's the story of her awakening as she began to realize that some of what Planned Parenthood was doing wasn't to help women. Like any other corporation, the bottom line was a profit.

She shares with the viewer how she felt when she was informed that Planned Parenthood was going to be doing late term abortions. For those that don't know, these abortions are surgical and are done later in a woman's pregnancy and are much more controversial. I won't get into the details. Honestly, when I watched that section on the DVD, I was in tears. Suffice it to say that Abby Johnson shared with viewers the fact that what she was told as director to pass onto women considering a late term abortion & what she actually saw on the fetal monitor during a late term abortion are not nearly the same. This was the turning point for Abby Johnson and it was at this point that she knew she could not continue to work for Planned Parenthood.

Unplanned
is a truly an amazing movie. You'll see how she struggled with her own choices and find out why she made the choice she did. I think every teenager should watch this movie before becoming sexually active and I think every woman considering an abortion should watch this.

Connect with Abby Johnson on Facebook to keep up with the latest news. Check out the trailer. Check out the Unite for LIFE webcast and sign up to participate if you like.  The Unite for LIFE webcast is a free webcast featuring Abby Johnson that will benefit pregnancy care organizations. Ditch the Joneses Discover Your Family by Cathi Brese Doebler

htDitch the Joneses, Discover Your Family: How to Thrive on Less Than Two Incomes!Book Title: Ditch the Joneses Discover Your Family
Subtitle: How to Thrive on Less than Two Incomes
Author: Cathi Brese Doebler
Genre: Christian, Financial
ISBN: 978-0-9817847-0-0
Publisher: Eastco Multimedia Solutions
Suggested Retail Price: $14.95

From the book:

We've all felt the pressure to "keep up with the Joneses".  Often it seems like it takes two incomes to survive in today's economy.  But what if that is not true for your family? What if your family can thrive on less than two full time salaries and flourish by spending more time together?
***************
Ditch the Joneses Discover Your Family is a book that will make you think about whether or not that second income is really as necessary as you believe it is. You'll look at your assumptions and read through step by step directions to determine what's really important in your life.

The author shares many ways that you can save in your day to day spending including clothing savings, shopping with coupons, and comparison shopping.  The book also shares how to figure out what your priorities are and how to keep your sanity as you transition from working parent to stay at home parent.  There is also a very interesting section on challenging your assumptions that I urge you to pay particular attention to. It really isn't as hard to switch to a single income as you think it is.

I really love that this book ties in your financial goals with your faith.  Throughout the book are sample prayers we can use to ask God for his help and guidance.  There are also lots of scripture references that will help you with your motivation.  There is also a very helpful resource section in the back of the book that suggests extra books and websites you can check out for more information. This is definitely a great first step on your road to switching to a one income family.

You can connect with the author on Facebook or her website.

My thanks to the sponsor for allowing me to review this book.
