There's a huge variety of sauce flavors and consistencies to choose from at the store. I want something that's as close to the authentic Italian tastes that I grew up with. I also want something that's full of spices and flavor - not tomato colored watered down sauce. I like all natural ingredients that are like my aunt used in her sauces. I also prefer sauces that are gluten free so Sarah18 can enjoy them.
The DelGrosso family has been making pasta sauce since the early 1900s. Now in their third generation, DelGrosso Foods has taken its place among highly regarded producers of fine Italian sauces. They're made with the finest ingredients and cooked very slowly to bring out the true DelGrosso taste.
DelGrosso sauces come in eight different varieties that are all natural and gluten free. They include Sunday Marinara, Tomato Basil Masterpiece, Fireworks Sauce, Vodka Celebration, Late Night Puttanesca, Roasted Red Pepper Tour, Arrabbiata Memories, and Sun-Dried Tomato Sonata. Several of the varieties are also Kosher, vegetarian, and vegan. Plus the Sunday Marinara has no sugar added.
I was really impressed when I looked at the ingredients list. I found real food like imported whole Italian plum tomatoes, heavy cream, fresh onions, imported pecorino romano cheese, basil and parsley. I didn't see anything that I wouldn't use in my own homemade pasta sauce.
Tonight we had Seafood a la Arrabbiata for dinner. Here's the recipe we used:
Seafood a la Arrabbiata
3/4 lb roasted garlic angel hair pasta (we used linguini)
1/2 lb peeled and deveined raw shrimp
1/2 lb sea scallops (we left these out as a frugal measure)
3 tablespoons olive oil
salt & pepper to taste
1 clove fresh garlic chopped fine
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (we used dried since ours isn't up yet)
1 (26 oz) jar Aunt Linda's Arrabbiata Memories
Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp and saute for 1 minute on each side. Set aside. Add scallops to skillet and saute for 2 minutes on each side. Set aside. Add fresh chopped garlic to skillet and lightly brown. Add Aunt Linda's Arrabbiata memories to garlic and heat until hot. Add shrimp and scallops and cook for approximately 5 - 10 minutes. Add pasta to shrimp and scallops. Garnish with fresh parsley.
This came out fantastic. Truly a phenomenal sauce. Delicious. I can see the spices in it and it tastes just the way Italian pasta sauce is supposed to taste. Of the flavors we have tried so far, I haven't found one that I wouldn't be proud to serve to my relatives and believe me that says a lot.
