Win a Kobo e-reader!

For as long back as I can remember, I have been an avid reader. When I was little, I numbered my most beloved books among the Little Golden Books. As I grew older, my tastes switched to Mrs. Piggle Wiggle and then Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. As my love for reading grew, so did my book collection. My collection soon expanded to two book shelves.,

Once I became an adult, I was free to collect as many books as I wanted. My collection grew to boxes and it was a huge pain to find the book I wanted when I was in the mood to read it. There was no way to organize all those books. It got even worse when the kids came along and wanted their own book collection. I love that they're huge fans of reading but after filling their own book cases, things just got a little bit crazy.

I'd heard a lot of talk about e-readers but honestly I didn't give it much of a thought. I didn't think that I could get *into* reading a book on an e-reader. I'd tried several times to read books on the computer and just couldn't do it. It didn't feel right.

When I received the Kobo e-reader I was first taken by how light weight it was. It's only 10mm thick and weighs just 221 grams. It's pretty much the same size as a book and very easy to hold in my hands comfortably. The unique quilted back makes it more book than device and just felt *right* in my hands.

The Kobo e-reader came preloaded with 100 classics on it already. I love this! I'm a huge fan of the classics and with two teenagers, having a ready access to the classics is super handy. Sarah18 is going into college for a double major in History and Literature and as soon as she found out my Kobo had the classics on it, she was paging through it exclaiming over all the books she was going to read.

The Kobo e-reader stores up to 1000 eBooks and is expandable to hold up to 8,000 eBooks with a SD memory card. You can even download free eBooks from your local library. Even with my extreme love of reading, 8,000 books is going to be more than enough room!

The Kobo is extremely easy to read. It has a 6" E Ink diagonal display for no glare reading and the screen is a 16 level grey scale screen. There are 5 selectable font sizes and choice of font styles to make it easy to find a style that works for you. The default font worked fine for me but it's good to know I can change it if I want to.

The Kobo has WiFi capabilities so that I can download new books to it wherever there is WiFi access. So if I finish a book I am reading at the doctor's office, no need to sit there bored, I can just download the next one I want to read. Best of all, the Kobo keeps track of where I was when I last read the book. This is especially handy when Sarah18 borrows my Kobo to read the Iliad while I'm in the middle of reading Walden & On The Duty of Civil Disobedience. No worries, the Kobo remembers exactly where I was so that when I click on the book name, I'm right where I left off. It even tells me that I'm on page 55 of 192 or 48% read. How cool!

This was super easy to use. I'm not hugely technical and new gadgets can be intimidating but I can honestly say that I knew how to use this within just a few minutes. There is a button on the bottom right hand corner of the e-reader that lets you select or move the page back and forth. It also lets you navigate through the menu.  You can add any epub or pdf books to your Kobo not only ones that you get from their website.

There are also four buttons on the left hand side of the Kobo. The buttons are home, menu, shop and back. These let you quickly navigate to places you commonly visit. This is really super easy to use. The battery life ten days or 10,000 pages!  Then just plug it in your computer USB to charge. Check out how it compares to other e-readers.

I purchased an e-book cover from Staples to hold my e-reader but they have a bunch of neat accessories on their site that you can buy for your e-book too.   Connect with Kobo on Facebook and Twitter for added coverage.

One of my lucky readers is going to win their very own Kobo e-reader with a black quilted backing. Here's what you can do for a chance to win!
