I have always loved the American Girl books because they're fun and interesting to read. You learn about different periods in our history and see what a young girl's life might have been like growing up then. You get to enjoy the clothes, the foods and always a fun adventure too.
Lately I have also been enjoying the American Girl movies. They offer the same great information and adventures as the books do with the added benefit that I get to actually see how they lived and dressed which is loads of fun.
Warner Home Video celebrates American Girl's 25th anniversary with the release of Felicity: An American Girl Adventure. This film will be available in a collectible, new deluxe edition on February 15, 2011. Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) stars as Felicity. The story focuses on a ten-year old girl (Felicity) who grows up during the American Revolution.
When Felicity meets a beautiful copper colored horse, she knows she has to free her from the horse's cruel owner. While this is happening, there are rumors of revolution in Williamsburg. Felicity's father believes that the colonies should be free from England but her best friend and her Grandfather support the king. Felicity struggles with keeping her family together and holding onto her friendship with her best friend.
Special features include an insider's tour of Felicity's world of Colonial Williamsburg, filmed in cooperation with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; All About Felicity: An American Girl; On Set with Felicity - Exclusive behind the scenes footage and interviews with Shailene Woodley (Felicity); and Felicity's Williamsburg: Co-Stars Shailene Woodley and Katie Henney guide you through Felicity's hometown, now a living history museum.
I really love the American Girl movies. They're fun. They feature a strong young woman in a variety of different time periods. There's always some sort of adventure and they're educational at the same time. These work really well in a homeschool curriculum as well.
