Veggie Corn Dogs by MorningStar Farms

One of the fond memories I have of my younger years is attending a drive in movie with friends. We loaded up on snacks and enjoyed a fantastic night watching a movie from our car. One of the treats we enjoyed while watching the movie was a corn dog. This hot dog on a stick covered in batter was totally new to me and I really enjoyed it. Sadly our one lone drive in movie theater closed and that's the one and only drive in I've ever gone to.

As I grew out of my teen years, I started to watch my weight more and I didn't allow myself treats like corn dogs any longer because they're so typically high in fat and calories. They became a fond memory that I was convinced I wouldn't be able to enjoy again.

Boy was I wrong! I recently had the chance to try MorningStar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs and I couldn't believe how good they were! I don't normally eat a lot of vegetarian *meat* options but I figured I'd give these a try. The box contains four individual Veggie Corn Dogs on a stick. Serving size is one corn dog. They have 73% less fat than the leading beef corn dog! There's only 150 calories per serving and 0g trans fat! How cool is that! Each corn dog is only 4 Points Plus! I can easily eat one of these for lunch with a big salad and some yogurt and still be good on points.

The box said you can prepare the Veggie Corn Dogs in the microwave or the oven.  I chose the oven since we don't use a microwave.  We placed all four on a cookie sheet & baked at 350F for 20 minutes. Once out of the oven, the outside coating was slightly crispy & in the inside was nice and moist.  The Veggie Dog inside the batter was delicious and the whole combination made for a fantastic lunch for the kids and I.

Since there were four in the box, I took one and gave each child one with a plate of chips & some carrot sticks.  That of course left one Veggie Corn Dog since Marty didn't eat lunch with us. The children were ARGUING over who got to eat the last Veggie Corn Dog.  I'm not sure they'd ever had a corn dog before but it was obviously a big hit because they were offering each other various bribes in order to be the one who got to eat it.  In an effort to maintain peace, I split the remaining Veggie Corn Dog in half and that was that.

Connect with MorningStar Farms on Facebook to keep up with all the latest products.  Check out their store locator to find a store that carries these near you (scroll down).  It looks like Walmart Super Centers carry them but sadly no one in my area does. Hopefully they will soon since I am looking forward to having another one soon!
