One of my favorite parts of Easter is coloring eggs. When the kids were little, we used to have a blast coloring them and adding stickers to decorate them. Now that they're teenagers, I didn't think they'd be interested in coloring eggs but I was wrong. They still want to color eggs!
Our chickens lay brown eggs and our ducks lay white eggs so I chose a variety of eggs to color and was curious to see what the brown eggs would look like after they were colored. According to the Paas Easter Egg Coloring Kit directions, there are three ways to prepare these eggs. I can add just vinegar to the dye tablet for vibrant colors. I can add lemon juice to the dye tablet for the classic colors or I can add water to the dye tablet for pastels. Sarah18 wanted neon colors so we went with straight vinegar.
I was really pleased with how bright most of the colors were. The pink still seemed very pale even after leaving the egg in the dye for a while but all in all, they came out really well. The Paas Easter Egg Decorating Kits also include stickers and stands to stand the eggs on.
There are five new varieties of kits available this year for a suggested retail price of $2.99:
Pirate Princess - Packed with 90 stickers, color tablets, egg stands and more, this kit will inspire little pirates and princesses to dress up eggs with buried treasure, skulls and crossbones, tall ships and more.
Wild Wheels - Hit the open road with Paas Wild Wheels. Stickers and egg stands help transform ordinary dyed eggs into road-worthy hot rods.
Fun Eggspressions - A great way to unleash creativity and "egg-spress" the artist within, this kit contains sand for color and texture, paint, stickers and more.
Basket Buddies - Perfect for the pet lover, this kit lets you create egg masterpieces using stickers of cuddly puppies, adorable kittens and playful bunnies.
Easter Traditions - Featuring some of our classic designs, this kit includes some of the traditional symbols of the Easter season.
I like having all the supplies I need to color eggs along with the stand and dipper all in one place. The themes are really cute and let use personalize the eggs based on what the child (or parent) is interested in. I would say that if you want to use the stands included in the kit, get extra large jumbo eggs. Some of our eggs were just not large enough to sit in a stand. The colors were vibrant enough to cover our brown chicken eggs with the exception of the pink which was very pastel. This was definitely fun even with teenagers!
Kits are available at major grocery, drug store and mass merchandiser chains nationwide with a suggested retail price of $2.99.
