Zone 1 2 3 by Dr. Sears

As the warmer weather approaches, people start to give a lot more thought to losing and maintaining their weight loss. After all, bathing suit will be here any day now! The Zone 1-2-3 Program is based on the principle of hormonal balance. Once you achieve that balance, you will burn fat faster, have freedom from hunger, and reduce cellular inflammation that drives weight gain. The Zone Diet believes that the reason that we gain weight is because the hormones generated by the foods we eat are out of balance; not lack of willpower.

The Zone Foods provide all of the protein that you need in your diet and you supplement them with vegetables, fruits, dairy and low fat protein. You also need to include exercise into your daily routine. Zone Foods include things like bagels, rolls, bread, pasta, orzo, pizza crust, chocolate chip cookies, granola, etc. Basically, it includes all of your typical carbohydrate foods.

A typical breakfast might include a Zone Foods bagel with low fat cream cheese. Each Zone Fast breakfast option includes the same amount of protein as a four egg white omelet. A Zone Fast lunch might be two slices of Zone bread long with 1 ounce of low fat turkey with lettuce and tomatoes for a sandwich. Or you could use the croutons to turn a garden salad into a filling Zone Fast lunch. A Zone Fast dinner might include a Zone Fast pizza using the pizza crust, tomato sauce, veggies & low fat mozzarella cheese. Each Zone Fast meal should keep you full for 4-6 hours but if you are going more than 5 hours until your next meal, they recommend you have one or two of the snacks like chocolate chip cookies or bagel crisps.

I'll be updating you over the next few weeks on my thoughts about the Zone 1 2 3 foods as I have a chance to try more of them.  For the most part, I really enjoyed the taste of the Zone 1 2 3 foods.  The foods do have a slightly different taste than traditional products which only stands to reason because of the higher protein count in the foods. They are definitely filling which I appreciate.  Some diet foods leave you starving 20 minutes after you've eaten. I didn't find that the case at all with the Zone 1 2 3 foods I've tried. My favorite so far has been the pizza crust. Definitely delicious with added sauce and cheese. The bagels were also quite good and toasted up nice and crisp.  The only food I have tried so far that I didn't enjoy were the chocolate chip cookies.  They had a definite *diet* taste which I am assuming was from the sweetener they used.

Here are a few things I have tried so far:
Breakfast - Zone Fast bagel with melted low fat cheese & apple slices (yummy!)

Lunch - Zone Fast pizza with tomato sauce & low fat mozzarella (delicious!)

Dinner - Zone Fast hearty white roll with veggie burger, ketchup & carrot sticks
(very good - should have added lettuce & tomato)

I like the Zone Fast plan because it offers a wide variety of different recipes on the blog.  It's not offering you a complete meal so what you eat is really very flexible.  You can use the hearty white roll with a sandwich, a veggie burger, an egg white omelet, etc.  You're not being forced to eat the same meals multiple times.  I'll be back next week with an update on a few more of the Zone Fast foods! Stay tuned!
