A million years ago before the kids were born, I took Tae Kwon Do and was only about a year away from my black belt. With the birth of two children and a back injury, I left my martial arts days behind and moved on to other less strenuous forms of exercise.
When I saw Acacia was coming out with a DVD on Tai Chi & Qi Gong Basics, I knew I had to check it out. Tai Chi & Qi Gong are two complete, easy to learn mind-body practices. This DVD arrives on March 22. It's led by Matthew Cohen, a martial arts master with more than 30 years experience. Tai Chi & Qi Gong are two centuries old Chinese health arts that allow you to cultivate strength and tranquility in the mind and body.
There are two separate workouts on this DVD. The Tai Chi program is 30 minutes in length and includes the essential poses of Tai Chi, the postures you need to know to create harmony and grace while increasing flexibility and endurance. Lastly you will build overall muscle tone and promote vigor and vitality. The Qi Gong program is 40 minutes in length and helps you condition your body and expand your senses through slow, natural, repetitive movements. This stimulates your immune system and you gain a sense of balance and inner calm.
A bonus feature is included with a question and answer session with Matthew Cohen about the benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong. There is about 70 minutes of play time in total. This is a wonderful workout to do when you're not quite feeling up to the intensity of one of your standard workout routines. It keeps you in the habit of moving each day and improves flexibility and balance.
I really enjoyed this DVD. It's a slow pace but definitely helps you stretch some of those lesser used muscles. I used this on a day when I wasn't feeling up to a full workout routine and it served to help me stretch and elevate the heart beat without leaving me feeling exhausted. It was also very calming and a great way to lessen stress. Definitely a great choice to add to your exercise routine.
My thanks to Acacia for allowing me to review this DVD.
