If you're anything like me, you regularly stand in front of your closet pondering the age old question of "What will I wear today?" Now this doesn't hit me every single day. Most days I am at home and a pair of jeans and comfy shirt are all I require to feel put together. However, several days a week, I work outside of the home. That means I need to dress professionally and jeans just do not cut it at work.
Now it isn't that I don't have clothes because I do. I love to shop after all. The problem is that just because I find one piece that I am in love with, doesn't mean that I've found something that goes with it to complete my look. I can't tell you how many pairs of pants or amazing shirts I have that absolutely do not go with anything else in my closet. That is just so frustrating!
Well, let me introduce you to the Fashion Bargainista! The Fashion Bargainista has a Smashion shop and fashion blog that offer complete outfits for sale including, in many cases, shoes, jewelry or belts along with them! Some of these outfits have a slightly vintage look which is all the rage now. Her outfits come in a wide range of sizes from petite/small all the way up to extra large. You'll find a lot of different styles including skirts, dresses and pants and the brand names she offers currently include Armani, Banana Republic and even Ann Taylor to name a few. The selection changes constantly as she finds new outfits.
Now when I was first approached about this opportunity, I wasn't sure. I love clothes but I am very picky about the names & styles that I wear. I'm one of those people who will try on 15 outfits before I find one I like. My daughter hates to shop with me because I am constantly sending her back to try on something else with *helpful* advice like "You cannot wear those two pieces together!" or "I've never heard of that brand before. Are you sure it's going to last?" and even "That is NOT your color!" She truly hates shopping with me but honestly, I have great taste and the outfits I choose are ones that look good, fit well and compliment my figure.
That said, the thought of allowing someone else pick an outfit for me was a bit disconcerting. Lena is meticulous in requesting measurements from you before sending an outfit. She wants not only your sizes but also your measurements to make sure the outfit will fit you well. If she doesn't have an outfit in your size/measurements, you can request a custom outfit be put together. Because I'm 5'8", that was the route I went since there were no outfits that worked for my measurements in her shop when I was looking. She checked with me to find out my style preferences and then worked her magic to find me an outfit I'd love.
Now before I give you a sneak look at the outfit I received, I have to mention her prices. You would expect all of this personal attention to cost tons. After all, these are nice name brands and she's gone through the effort to match up pieces, styles, sizes and colors for you. I was stunned at how reasonable her prices are! All the outfits she has on her site right now are between $10 and $15 each plus postage. I cannot even find one piece of my outfit for those prices and she's managed to put together entire outfits!
You can see the outfits she has currently for sale on her blog and her Smashion shop.
I received a pair of beige pants from The Limited and a purple shirt from Eddie Bauer. She even included an adorable purple and silver necklace that looked like it was made out of seashells. Everything she sent fit me perfectly and I was very impressed. It will be the perfect outfit for work in another month or two. Right now in Vermont, I'm still in sweaters and snowboots but soon enough I'll be going for something a little more summery.
If you're looking for someone to take some of the hassle of shopping for a new outfit off your plate, you need to check out the Frugal Fashionista. I never thought having a personal shopper would be something affordable, but she has definitely show that it can be. Take a look at the cute outfits she has to offer and see how easy it is to have your own personal fashion shopper.
