The Tourist & Hunts Spaghetti Sauce for Dinner #familymeals #couchcritics

The Tourist came out in 2010 and stars Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany. Frank (Johnny Depp) is on a trip enjoying a vacation to mend his broken heart. While he is traveling on a train to Venice, Elise (Angelina Jolie), deliberately sits next to him and pretends that they're lovers in an attempt to throw the police, interpol & Scotland Yard off the real criminal's trail. The rest of the movie is spent with them trying to evade both the police and the mob so that Elise can meet up with the real criminal, her accomplice, who has gotten away with billions he stole from a gangster.  I won't tell you what happens in case you'd like to see it yourself but the ending does have a nice little twist.

When I first saw the movie advertised, I remember reading a review that called it a thriller. I'm a huge fan of thrillers so I was looking forward to seeing this. Both kids enjoy movies with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie so I thought this would make a great family film since it is rated PG-13. It can be hard to find movies the whole family wants to watch that are still appropriate for a younger teen. It was really more of a romantic comedy with a little suspense thrown in than a thriller. The scenery of Venice was truly amazing and made me really want to visit there but the plot didn't do all that much for me. Both kids seemed to really enjoy the movie and it kept them entertained through the whole thing.   Both want to watch the movie again tomorrow but for me... I was hoping for a bit more.

The Tourist did make for a nice Italian theme to go with our Johnny Marzetti for dinner.  I picked up a copy of The Tourist from RedBox while I was at WalMart getting the Hunts Spaghetti Sauce for dinner. If you'd like to see the recipe, check out my Whrrl.
