How to have a stress free technology upgrade

I love technology but I'm not one of those people that is first to run out and get a new product as soon as it's developed. I tend to be a little behind the times and making changes to my technology is rather stressful for me. I'm one of those people whose cell phones doesn't have internet capabilities and is still using Windows XP & Office 2000. Yup seriously behind the times.

Well all good things must come to an end. Lately my computer has been acting funky. It randomly shuts down windows when I don't want it to. It gives me strange error messages and freezes if I try to do two things at one time. You know what that means? It's time for a new computer.

That doesn't thrill me like you'd expect it to. A lot has changed since my Windows XP and ancient version of Office. Windows 7 is the new kid on the block and the new version of Office is nothing like the dinosaur I've been using. Plus what happens to all my files on my current computer? I can feel the stress rising just thinking about it!

I gave Staples a call since they are my computer supply store of choice and spoke to Rusty in their Tech department. I was very pleased to find out that they could transfer all the files from my current XP computer to a new Windows 7 computer without a problem!

The original estimate of 3-5 business days sort of freaked me out but luckily Rusty had an opening and squeezed me in for a same day turn around. I stopped down at Staples with my current computer and between Rusty and Joe and I, we managed to pick out a brand new 4 gig Hewlett Packard computer with Windows 7 on it! I left my old computer there so they could do whatever magic transfer process needed to be done & promised to call later on that afternoon for an update.

When I called at 4 I was told it would be ready at 7 that evening which was fantastic.  I really don't like to be away from my computer for too long.  Sadly when I stopped by at 7 they were having some kind of issue with the transfer of the files and were running a bit behind.  They promised they'd know more in the morning so I'll be giving them a call then to find out when I can get my computer.  I'm so glad I don't have to try to figure this all out on my own.  It's great being able to rely on the techs at Staples to handle this for me. I'm so excited to be able to have a brand new updated system and I'll be updating you all again soon on this process!
